In this limited edition Aquatic Reef Series of glass art by Brian Holzhammer, each handblown bottle contains a vast array of ocean life in a variety of bold shapes and bright colors. This sculpture boasts 360 degrees of fine detail, and must be viewed from all angles in order to see each and every inhabitant. Tucked within the tangles of oceanic plant life is a vividly colored tropical fish, complete with 3-dimensional glass eyes for a realistic effect as he stares back at you from his reef dwelling. Each sea creature and its surrounding vegetation has been individually flame sculpted, and then fused together, so that the sculpture and all of its various elements are actually one piece, including the clear blown glass bottle that contains this unique underwater ecosystem. The bottle is then filled with water, which magnifies the intricate detail within and brings the contents to life… the plants appear to sway in the waves, the fish seem to move with the current.

This work of art is appx 5.25” tall, including the cork stopper. It was handblown and flame sculpted using an ancient hot glass technique known as lampworking, which allows for extra attention toward fine detail, vivid colors, and a more realistic appearance. Brain uses borosilicate glass (the strongest, most crack resistant glass available) and then he kiln anneals each piece slowly to further enhance its durability. Each installment of Brian’s limited edition Aquatic Reef Series is one of a kind, and has been signed by the artist on the base with a diamond-tipped engraving pen.

Each hand blown glass sculpture is lovingly wrapped and carefully packed to ensure safe travel. They are shipped without water to comply with USPS regulations, and to avoid issues with seepage or freezing.* Please fill with distilled water upon arrival. (*If left full of water in freezing temperatures, the inner details of the sculpture may break.)

Brian’s Aquatic Reef series has been sought after by private collectors internationally, and has earned a place among Bertram Cohen’s famous glass collection, among others. This series was also featured in the book Good Things/Small Packages: An Intimate Look at Small Glass (Public Glass, San Francisco CA) and led Brian to create a related body of work that was commissioned by MGM Grand.
